“Loved being alive and felt everyday was worth its weight in gold”! MONTROSE—Dan R. “Danny” Parmenter, 56, of Montrose, Colo., peacefully passed away with his wife at his side early Thursday morning, Oct. 2, 2008, after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer.

Dan was born in Montrose. He spent his childhood, graduated from Olathe High School and lived most of his life around the Delta/Olathe area. Dan was assistant superintendant at the Ridgway Dam and had worked for Tri-County Water Conservatory for 19 years.

Dan valued and enjoyed life. He loved being outdoors and staying active. Among his many interests and passions were gold prospecting, hunting and fishing, making music, taking care of the yard/garden and his home. He played bass guitar and sang as a member in many local bands over the years.

Dan was a member of the G.P.A.A. (Gold Prospectors Association of America) and had been president of the Western Colorado Chapter of the G.P.A.A. in Olathe for four years. He supported the club, helping to sponsor Camp Wapiyapi near Estes Park, Colo. Camp Wapiyapi is available for children who have cancer, giving them a chance to spend time enjoying the outdoors and making a dream come true.

Dan and his wife, Charlene Annette, were married on Oct. 15, 2004, after spending many years of living and loving together. Other survivors include his parents, Bill and Barbara Parmenter of Moab, Utah; two sisters, Kathy (Steve) Velvick of Nampa, Idaho, Peggy Parmenter (Jim) of Delta, Colo.; a daughter, Jodie (Chris) Schauer of Milwaukee; one granddaughter, Gabriella, and one on the way. Also surviving are many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, great nephews and friends.

A memorial get-together for family and friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home, 802 E. Main, Montrose, CO (970) 249-2121.
